On 25th January 2008, there was an outing at Lake Monger, West Perth. At 8:20pm, some members proceed to LUNA outdoor cinema to watch a movie. However, I heard that they have to wait until 9pm because the sky was not dark enough.

An aside. Kingsway Methodist Church Sunday School has released its 2nd newsletter this Sunday. While the newsletter is intended for parents and teachers, we want to share the electronic newsletter so that congregation would know more about us. Hopefully the newsletter would help to recruit potential Sunday school teachers. ^o^

Hard copy newsletter are only available to pastors, teachers and parents with children in Sunday school. The electronic newsletter is in 1200 dpi resolution, sufficient for colour printing on your own.

This coming Sunday is Sunday School Sunday and there will be special presentation from the children.

Good news!! Please welcome Baby Lloyd Lu to our big family!! Aalan and Liz are both happy parents to Llyod Lu on the 5th October 2007. Llyod is a healthy boy with a weight of around ~3.2kg.

P/S: Christine Yek is expected to deliver her baby in the coming two weeks. Serene Tiong is expecting her delivery beginning of November. Please pray for both mother.

On Saturday 08/09, the MYF committee had their final lunch gathering at Hillary's Jetty restaurant with Rev. chen and mentors. The committee had a sharing and devotion session in the morning regarding "The temptation of Jesus". It is God's grace to see that each of them are willing to commit their time to serve in this ministry. Pretty sure they enjoy themselves and have a good fellowship time and lunch at Hillarys. Second Anniversary

Oh yeah, we made it to the 2nd anniversary (28th August 2007). Praise the Lord! The blog is still up and running.

It has been an another enjoyable year in blogging MYF events. I hope the blog would continue to serve its purpose as a communication mean for MYF Nedlands. In addition, I hope that this blog would continue in encouraging new friends, both local and overseas, to know us and join us in near future.

I would like to thank Yik Kiet for his constant help, brothers and sisters who have contributed photos and also to all the visitors, thank you for your support. Yik Kiet has been the handy man behind the side bar updates. He also incorporated a good idea of having a tagboard. Yik kiet had suggested having a forum but I had a debate with him on whether his effort would pay off, considering not many people comment on the blog. Let alone a discussion in a forum.

The greatest happiness is that we do have a good visiting length record. Most visitors took their time and read the blog. Visit length of more than 30 seconds to an hour usually contribute to more than 50%. The other half took less than 5 seconds. At the moment, we only have visitors from Australia (4/5) and Malaysia (1/5). Sometimes I see one or two from New zealand. The only disappointment I had was the lack of response in comments.

The graph above is the monthly visit for this since our first anniversary. The blue indicator is the number of unique visit while the orange one is the return visit indicator. The green is pageloads.

We also see the birth of EMYF blog on the 20th February 2006. It was joyful to see that they also have this vision. We are proud to say that only MYF in WA has blogs. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I really havent heard or seen other than ours. Well, CMCA EMP just started their website and their youth page not long ago.

It'll be good for our church to have an official website, then we can link to it. They had the plan 2 years ago but apparently no result. I would like to see more people involved in the blog "ministry". The EMYF has good team members.

In the near future, I wonder if we should stick with MYF Nedlands or MYF Kingsway ????

May the Lord continue to bless the youth ministry.

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,

An important announcement from 信仰组. There will be a 20 minutes of Bible verses test on Friday next week (27th July). This is the National Bible test organized by CMCA MYF Faith committee (年会青年团契信仰组). The test comprises 3 sections:
1. Fill in the blanks (30%)
2. Writing verse from memory (50%)
3. Matching bible verse (20%)

The test covers the first 13 bible verses (pg 1-29) of the booklet which we are using as our sharing material every Friday fellowship. Please note the test is now bilingual, Chinese and English.

Quote from Daniel (CMCA MYF Faith Officer) "There will be prizes for the test and will be presented during the Youth Convention in Sydney end of this year. There is also a prize for the highest participation MYF in Australia. However, only those who pass the test are considered in the participation prize."

On the 27th July, it is also the quiz night for the book of Luke. There are 24 chapters in Luke so do prepare and revise early. Study the words of God because it strengthens us and makes our lives more meaningful each day.

John Forest National Park outing

MYF Weekend Event 2

The second event for MYF weekend is the John Forest National Park outing. Photos to come, maybe tomorrow (Acquired but need editing).

John Forrest National Park is WA’s oldest national park. It became John Forrest National Park is 1947, in honour of Sir John Forrest, who was Premier of Western Australia between 1890 and 1901. Youth members gathered at the Toh's residence at 9.00am but the culture of Chinese (late)made it only possible to leave for the park at 10am. Upon reaching the venue, we settled down at the picnic area. Three BBQ facilities were used to cook the delicious food such as chicken wings, beef, lamb chops, fish balls, onions and sausages. Yes, we also have a sweet watermelon as desert. We started with a prayer and the singspiration was led by Jane and Diana. Then, Michael led the games while few brothers and sisters prepared the lunch. After the lunch, the youths went on a jungle walking trail at 2pm. The journey took around an hour and 45 minutes. Throughout the walk, we have seen emu, parrots and kangaroos. The wonder of flora and fauna reminded us of God's wonderful creation. After the walk, we went to the tavern for some refreshing drinks. We left at around 4.30pm.

Church 16th Anniversary

Kingsway Methodist Church celebrates its 16th birthday today. May th Lord continue to bless the church and strengthen the church.

There are four children baptised and two adults confirmed to the church this morning. The combined choir sang the Hallelujah Chorus. We're expecting special presentation but there's none. Then, there's the cake cutting ceremony.

Yesterday the church celebrated Parents day. The adult choir presented a song and the women fellowship presented a dance. The sunday school children gave a presentation on Psalm 23 and a song called "Billy Bob", teaching them about responsibility. The Psalm 23 recital by the chilren is a good way of remembering the verse. Do try it out.

Thank you to the MYF for organizing this wonderful and enjoyable program. The theme of the competition was "Fried Rice". The "五饼二鱼炒饭" has the honour of claiming the best dish for the night. Other presented fried rice dishes comprised "爆炸炒饭","虾仁炒饭", "八宝炒饭" and "夏威夷炒饭".

CMCA Calendar 2007

Extract from the letter by CMCA MYF chairperson, Stalacye Then

"The 2007 Calendar is one of the ministry of MYF of CMCA. Launceston MYF is responsible for the design and publishing. 1000 copies are printed in Hong Kong now and will be posted to AC headquarters in Mid November. We are blessed as we have the chairperson of Women Fellowship of CMCA sponsored the entire cost for the 2007 Calendar. Hence, all the money raised is net profit.

Money raised will be pledged for (1) AC headquarters; (2) Youth Convention; and (3) MYF of CMCA. Please encourage your church congregation to support this event."

We'll try and get some confirmation from MYF members next week so that, you can book your copy and the ministers can order sufficient calendars. Please support the calendar.

Mooncake Festival Sketch Competition Gallery. Gone in 10 seconds. Just kidding ^^

Event summary:
Praise the Lord and bravo to everyone who has participated in the sketch presentation, the actor and actress as well as the backstage crew members.

The rehearsal was scheduled for Saturday morning but we had encoutered several technical problems in particular the switching mechanism for the laptop. We want to thank Yik Kiet for providing the USB-PS2 cables, which are essential to the smooth switching of the powerpoint. Also, there are problems with co-ordination of group members in their own presentations. Everything, including PA system, microphones, apparatus and computers, was properly setup by 6pm.

The evening began with a prayer led by Rev. Allen Chen. Then, the master of ceremony (MC) Yee Khuan and Donny addressed and welcomed the congregation. Without further ado, the first group, directed by James Yek took the stage. The title is "管家" depicting the theme of "The parable of talents". The sketch potrayed 3 main character, Chiin Yiing, Oscar and Yik Kiet. Chiin Yiing featured a woman with business potential who was money-minded and suffered bankruptcy after a failed 2 billion investment. Oscar served God faithfully and God blessed him with a happy family. Yik Kiet had financial problems and resorted to computer hacking which resulted him in conviction. The group had done marvellous job in the costume design and choreography.

After the first sketch, Rev. Allen Chen presented the audience with a powerpoint presentation with illustrations depicting the glory and love of God, with "Jesus loves you" as background music. The MCs then introduced the second group directed by William and Bruce. The second group cast Daniel as the main character in the story. Daniel was a youth faithful to God but encountered denials and suffering in his life. He had leukemia and was cheated by triads. He also attempt suicide but failed to end his life. In hospital, he was counselled by pastor (Michael) and renew his faith in God. He passed away and his family grieved. The family turned to Christ after the incident.

The last group, directed by Ing Tong, was about "爱的团契', featuring 4 main characters. They were Alvin, Victor, Elly and Evelyn. Victor and Elly were non-Christian. They were assigned to group assignments with Alvin and Evelyn respectively. Victor had mild autism and Elly was also busy with her casual work. They always forgot to contribute in the assignment which resulted in Alvin and Evelyn frustrated at them. After Rev. Chen's sharing in the MYF, Alvin and Evelyn realized that they have to accept Victor and Elly for their weakness. They approached their partners and tried to help them. In the end, they became good friends and both Victor and Elly also went to MYF and changed their lifestyles.

After the sketched, a group of youths, involving Yee Shin, Daniel, Joyce, Peter and Chiin Yiing, presented a dance. The night ended with photo session. Everyone was tired but happy with their efforts. We also realized one thing, packing and tidying the appartus was more tiring than setup them up.

Results for best sketch, best director, best actor and actress, best actor and actress in supporting role will be revealed this Friday. Dont miss it. There are prizes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been wanting to write this blog for the last 2 months. But I only managed to get the photos from Michael last few weeks ago. Basically just wanna show to you all what's we been doing on the night before youth sunday. There 8 brothers & sisters who willing to sacrifice their precious time, staying at the church and burn the midnight oil to decorate the church for the next day Youth sunday. What a spirit, yeah!!! Thanks William for standing on the stair for long time & not forgeting the rest for your efforts in cutting out the words. Indeed we were very tired that night even a sister fall asleep. However, God still continue to bless the youth fellowship.

First Anniversary

Yik Kiet informed me last week that 28th of August would be this blog's 1st anniversary. Praise the Lord! The blog is still up and running.

This project is not an official MYF project and was started by some youths in the MYF to promote MYF Nedlands to the MYF youths, alumni and friends. Thus, we dont have any financial support nor official obligation.

The graph above is the monthly visit for this blog from January to August (last year's August to December data cannot be retrieved). The blue indicator is the number of unique visit while the orange one is the return visit indicator. The green is pageloads which dont mean much.

It has been an enjoyable journey for the blog team members as they write and see growths in the blog visit. One year anniversary is just the start of the next journey, 2nd anniversary. I hope the blog would continue to serve its purpose as a communication mean for MYF Nedlands. In addition, I hope that this blog would serve in encouraging new friends, both local and overseas, to know us and join us in near future.

Last but not least, I would like to thank Yik Kiet for his constant help, brothers and sisters who have contributed photos and also to all the visitors, thank you for your support.

Tell The World

EMYF has organized a "Tell The World" concert on 12th August 2006. There were skits, choirs, musical presentations and lots more. It was amazing! Those who went were very impressed with the performances.

Western District Revival Meeting

On August 15th and 16th, the Western District will be organising revival meetings which will be lead by Rev. Joel Siaw. The venue will be at our church. This is indeed God's blessing for bringing Rev Joel Siaw to Perth.

Rev Joel Siaw is the pioneer who had the vision to start Methodist church in Perth. He has seen the needs of chinese people in Perth. Hence, in 1991, he started fellowship groups and services with some brothers and sisters in Christ. With God's blessing, today we have 3 Methodist church in WA. Rev Joel Siaw has retired from his pastorial committment with Sabah Annual conference in Sabah, Malaysia. However, until today, he continue to travel around the world, preaching gospels and help to build the churches.

Hence, we strongly encourage brothers and sisters to attend this revival meeting. You will gain benefit from his sharing.

MYF Sunday 2006 Photo Gallery

The Chinese MYF of CMCA, Nedlands celebrated its 2006 MYF Sunday on 2nd of July. The theme for MYF this year is "Fellowship with Love". The decoration was designed by William & Fang Jia and helped by several others.

The chairman presented a meaningful speech regarding the MYF and what the MYF offers to youth. The powerpoint slides are available as video for download.

Seven brothers & sisters from CMYF presented a special item for the congregation. A small video of the "dance" is available for download. Thanks to William, Ruth, Daniel, Kwong Li, Alvin, Amy & Peter for the show and Mrs. Chen as instructor.

Then, a group of youths presented the song "Fellowship with Love" with actions. Rev. Allen Chen also shared his sermon based on the MYF theme. Later, MYF advisors were presented with token of appreciation by Rev. Elijah. Our advisors comprise Rev.Chen & Mrs.Chen, Tracy, Donny, Uncle John & Aunty Ling, Bruce and Serene Ling.

There were also the Youth Missionary Trip to China delegation ceremony but details will be posted on corresponding post.

Thank you to all MYF memberr for helping and participating in celerating our 15th Anniversary cum MYF SUnday 2006.

The Da Vinci Code

Tonight we watched a DVD on the real facts behind The Da Vinci Code novel by Dan Brown. My personal opinion is that the novel was a poorly researched fiction although it claimed that there were thorough research done for the novel.

We didnt have the time to finish the whole movie and many facts are not presented. So I urge and strongly encourage you all to visit RBC ministries website. You can download the discovery series on The Da Vinci code. The author is Mart De Haan, one of the host in the DVD. http://www.rbcdavincicode.org/

If you are thinking of watching the upcoming movie, then please take time to read the "The Da Vinci Code: Separating Fact From Fiction." RBC Discovery tells you the claims, evidence and the truth.

If you still doubt the authencity of the deity of Jesus and the reliability of the Bible. I personally recommend Lee Strobel's "Case for Christ" and N.L.Geisler & F. Turek's "I dont have enough faith to be an atheist." Alternatively, you can purchase "Case for Christ" from Koorong for just AUD $5.

CMYF Idol Night

The MYF members were sepatated into 4 groups led by the leaders. Four children songs were presented that evening and the advisors were the judges. The first group had its members wearing rabbit ear head-band and sang "Learn to Dance like a Rabbit". The second group showed its members in two teams, dogs and cats. The third group sang "As Long as I Grow up" while the last group, with their yellow shirts, sang somehting about trumpets. The last group also sang a song which they re-write the lyrics. The winner for the night was the last group.

Almost all group try to tie their song or dance to biblical teaching, so I think next time we should use Christian/youth song directly, should have same effects.

Easter Camp 2006: 爱的团契

On 14-15 April 2006, Nedlands chinese MYF have organised an Easter camp at Iluka. We give thanks to our heavenly Father for guiding us smoothly through the whole camp. Through this camp, I believe brothers and sisters get to know more about Christ and what type of spiritual life we should live as a Christian. Morever, brothers and sisters get to know each other better and build a better fellowship in MYF. We would like to give our thanks to Rev Allen & Shi Mu for leading the workshops which cover the christian serving's attitude, the fellowship's life and fellowship's relationship. Thanks to our diligent committee members for putting in their effort in preparing the camp. Not to forget everyone for participating in this camp. We pray that brothers and sisters in Christ will put into practice of what you have learned in the camp in your real life. Show your love to God by serving Him with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind.
